Journal #4: Ethical Concerns

My big question was what can be changed so that we are more focused on our lives, and the world around us than the various distractions in society. This raises many ethical questions, on whether things need to be changed or not, or if it is even worth trying. These distractions have become a part of our lives, and if we try to change them now, what could the consequences be? There are currently many people who are doing research on topics similar to this one, but the issue arises, is it truly worth the effort.

When something becomes a part of our lives every single day it can be really hard to change it. It becomes habituary, even if it weren’t there we would find ourselves reaching for our phones. What impact will the withdrawals have? Like anything else that is addictive we would need our distractions, the world would be different without them. Therefore, can we really stop our addiction without severe impact? It’s almost like breathing, if you try to hold your breath for too long it is a struggle, and eventually you have to breathe, what will happen when we break and we need to use our technology again?

There are a lot of people researching topics similar to this. Understanding that it is very important for us to appreciate the world around us, especially while our world is in danger. They, along with many others, believe that it is increasingly more important to appreciate our world, so that we are more willing to participate in fighting for its longevity. However, these people need to understand that as “sad” as it may sound, these distractions are now part of our lives, so if we change them it may have an adverse impact. There has to be a way to make changes without negatively affecting our lives.

Ways to make these changes in a positive manner is creating more media in appreciation of our world. This way people will see it while on their phones and it will potentially inspire them to go out and enjoy the world. Doing it like this is much safer because it allows people to be comfortable when they see potential change, because it approaches them in a space where they feel safe. We should try to use the need for technology to our advantage. Making things about nature more mainstream will promote positive change in the world.

In conclusion, this question is tough because there is no certainty. No one knows what impact changes will have on us, and no one knows what will happen in the future. The only thing that is certain is that something needs to change, eventually if everything keeps bending something will break.
